Fire Mesa Staff are committed to the safety and well-being of your students. It is our goal to ensure they all have a positive recess experience. With that said, there are many students at one time playing many games within a small area. Therefore, we believe some additional organization to recess is necessary, including implementing additional safety rules and etiquette.
Students will continue to have the freedom to select an activity of their choice which includes all of the games and activities currently offered. The difference being, we are requesting students remain in particular areas, designed for specific activities, in order to avoid interfering with each game. For example, students playing tag, or a chase game, are not allowed to run through the basketball court. The blue picnic tables are available for those students who do not wish to participate in an active game.
There will be adult supervision for each activity to assist students in following the rules of the game as well as safety rules and guide students through steps to resolve problems.
We ask that students remain with the activity they select for the day so that when a game begins it can be played without interruption of players going in or out of the game.
Finally, recess time has not been reduced. We are requesting students follow the plan for a week and then share with us any ideas or suggestions they may have to improve the plan.
Thank you for your understanding and support of Fire Mesa’s plan to safeguard your students during their free play. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
